Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has signed a decree calling early parliamentary elections after the Zhogorku Kenesh voted to dissolve itself, Orda.kz reports.
The elections are set for November 30. Last week, deputies of the Supreme Council supported self-dissolution by an unprecedented vote — 84 out of 89 backed the move, with no opposition.
Lawmakers behind the initiative argued that, under the constitution, the next parliamentary elections would have taken place in November 2026, followed just six weeks later by the presidential race. Holding both campaigns so close together, they said, would strain the state budget and the Central Election Commission.
Deputy Ulan Primov claimed that moving the vote up to 2025 would reduce political risks and ensure stability across government branches.
Talks about dissolving parliament had been underway since 2023, with analysts linking the move to upcoming electoral reforms. Under the new system, parliament will retain 90 seats, but the country will be divided into 30 multi-member districts.
Each district must elect at least one woman, and both party candidates and independents will be able to run.
