Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Agriculture plans to strengthen preparations for a locust invasion by sending about 50 drones into the fields to detect outbreak zones and treat affected areas, Orda.kz reports.
According to the ministry, agricultural drones can operate in places where conventional equipment cannot reach, including the steppe, mountainous areas and river floodplains.
The use of unmanned aerial vehicles makes it possible to quickly identify pest concentrations, significantly speeds up monitoring and increases the coverage of surveyed areas. the ministry said.
The Methodological Centre for Phytosanitary Safety said the drone fleet had grown significantly over the past year. In 2025, it had only seven devices, and in December another 50 were purchased.
As a result, 57 drones are now in use. The centre believes this will improve readiness for the season and help respond more quickly to risks.
