Kazakh Citizen Among Six Killed in Avalanche in Russia’s Buryatia

Six people were killed in a snow avalanche at the Irokinda mine in Buryatia, including one citizen of Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports.

The information was confirmed by Russian law enforcement agencies. According to Izvestia, the emergency occurred on April 28 at one of the sections of the mine in the Muisky district.

Six workers who were at the site were caught in an avalanche. It later became known that one of the dead was a citizen of Kazakhstan, while the others were Russians.the Emergency Ministry said.

The ministry added that rescuers were sent to the scene by helicopter. They carried out search and rescue operations, but all six workers were found dead.

Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case under the article covering violations of workplace safety rules that result in the deaths of two or more people. The prosecutor’s office has also launched an inspection.

According to preliminary data, nine people were at the site when the avalanche struck. Three managed to get out on their own. The investigation into the causes of the tragedy is continuing.
