The Almaty prosecutor’s office has returned 288 hectares of land near Medeu Park to state ownership. The plots are worth more than 17 billion tenge, Orda.kz reports.
Prosecutors found that two land plots had been illegally transferred into private ownership. The land was designated for agricultural use and belonged to the water fund, which means it could not be redeemed under the law.
The prosecutor’s office of Zhetysu district filed a lawsuit, and the court declared the transactions invalid. The Almaty City Court upheld the decision. the Prosecutor General’s Office said.
Earlier, Orda.kz wrote that the Ministry of Ecology had opposed the transfer of part of the Ile-Alatau National Park to the balance sheet of Medeu Park, which is subordinate to the Almaty akimat. According to officials, reducing the park’s territory would damage the country’s image.
