Avalanche on Titov Pass Kills Tourist Near Almaty

An avalanche on Titov Pass in Almaty’s Medeu District hit a group of four tourists, burying two of them under snow, Orda.kz reports.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the incident happened at an altitude of 3,400 m. One man managed to free himself, while another was later found dead.
Rescuers from Almaty’s Emergency Situations Department’s Universal Rescue Unit-23, staff from the RSI «Barys», a canine team, and volunteers were dispatched to the site. A drone was used during the search-and-rescue operation.
«The body of the deceased was recovered from under the snow,» the ministry said.
Police officers and emergency service psychologists worked at the scene. The circumstances of the tragedy are being investigated.
Earlier, Orda.kz reported on a separate incident in which a skier was buried in an avalanche.
