Inspectors in two regions of Kazakhstan found dangerous quarantine weeds in cargo shipments imported from Russia, Orda.kz reports.
The first case was recorded in the Aktobe region, the State Inspection Committee in the agro-industrial complex said.
During inspection of a 50-ton shipment of food barley imported by road from the Republic of Bashkortostan in the Russian Federation, specialists of the territorial inspection found signs of contamination with quarantine organisms. The results of the phytosanitary examination confirmed the presence of common ragweed and bur ragweed.the committee said.
The second case occurred in the Kostanay region. During secondary phytosanitary control of a three-ton batch of guar seeds, inspectors also found contamination. The examination later confirmed the presence of common ragweed.
The committee said administrative protocols were drawn up in both cases, and the materials were sent to court.

Ragweed is a particularly dangerous quarantine weed. It depletes the soil, reduces crop yields, and its pollen is considered a strong allergen.
