Deputy Transport Minister Maksat Kaliakparov said he believes Shymkent also needs an LRT, despite the scandal-ridden experience of the project in the capital, Orda.kz reports.
According to him, such projects require detailed study, but they are necessary in large cities.
Such projects require comprehensive study, and these decisions are not made unilaterally by a single body. They are discussed with the akimat, and there are requirements related to traffic intensity, population and infrastructure. So while similar projects are also on the agenda in other cities, as you know, they are already being implemented in Almaty and are moving toward construction there.he said.
At the same time, when answering a question about Shymkent, the deputy minister noted that he personally supports the idea of building an LRT.
I believe this is necessary in Shymkent.he added.
The LRT project in Astana has repeatedly been the subject of corruption investigations and public criticism. Construction dragged on for years, and the planned launch was accompanied by criminal cases and accusations of embezzlement of budget funds.
