The Georgian Government will purchase equipment and software from Israeli company Cellebrite, Orda reports, citing BM.ge.
The equipment and software are used to extract information from mobile phones, computers, and other digital devices.
According to BM.ge, Communal Technology LLC, Cellebrite's official representative in Georgia, has already signed a contract worth 6,796,092 lari (approximately USD 2,419,000). Under the terms of the agreement, Georgia will receive the equipment within 20 calendar days, and the licenses will be valid for 3 years.
The devices are designated for the Forensic-Criminalistic Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
BM.ge notes that Cellebrite products are widely used by law enforcement agencies in the USA, Europe, and Asia.
However, the company has repeatedly faced criticism for its technologies being used to restrict civil liberties.
The company terminated cooperation with Russia and Belarus in 2021.
