Digital Ministry Comments on Alleged Leak of 15 Million Kazakhstanis’ Data

Reports that eGov was hacked and the personal data of 15 million Kazakhstanis was leaked have not been confirmed. The Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development said checks found no evidence that government systems had been breached, Orda.kz reports.
The ministry conducted the technical review together with other authorized agencies.
No breach of eGov information systems was detected,the government said.
Specialists also obtained access to the files that an unknown seller had allegedly offered on the dark web. According to the ministry, the material consists of assorted files and images and is not an export from eGov.
The stated size and contents of the dataset contradict one another. In addition, eGov does not contain a database of passport scans in the form described by the seller. Digital documents are generated and stored in an entirely different way,the ministry explained.
Earlier, reports emerged of a possible leak involving the data of 15 million Kazakhstanis. The seller claimed that the 2.7-gigabyte file contained 47 million records, including passport details, phone numbers, email addresses, employment information, document scans and passwords.
The files were offered for 0.5 bitcoin, equivalent to around $32,000.
