Possible Leak of 15 Million Kazakhstanis’ Data Under Investigation

A database allegedly containing the personal information of 15 million Kazakhstanis has been offered for sale on the dark web. The seller claims the data was obtained by hacking eGov, but this has not been confirmed. The Interior Ministry and the Center for Analysis and Investigation of Cyberattacks, known as TSARKA, are checking the claims, Orda.kz reports.
According to several Telegram channels, a user named shymzz13 is offering the database for 0.5 bitcoin, equivalent to around $32,000. Some cybersecurity experts consider the asking price unusually high for the illicit data market.
The seller claims the 2.7-gigabyte database contains 47 million records covering 15 million people. It allegedly includes passport details, phone numbers, email addresses, employment information, document scans and passwords belonging to Kazakhstanis.
The Interior Ministry and TSARKA told Orda.kz that they were checking reports of a possible data breach.
The claim emerged shortly after Kazakhstan launched eGov 3.0, an updated version of the public services portal built on the QazTech platform. Kazakhstani users subsequently criticized the new platform’s interface.
