Personal Data of Kazakhstanis Was Sold Online to Debt Collectors and MFIs

The National Security Committee has uncovered a scheme for the illegal online sale of Kazakhstanis’ personal data. Among the buyers were representatives of financial organizations, Orda.kz reports.
According to the investigation, members of the group obtained personal information illegally and sold it online. The buyers included representatives of microfinance organizations, debt collection agencies and private individuals.
During searches, investigators seized computers, electronic storage devices and a large amount of cash from the suspects.
A criminal case has been opened under three articles of the Criminal Code: violation of privacy and personal data legislation, unlawful access to information, and the creation and distribution of malicious software.
Other details of the case have not been disclosed in the interests of the investigation.
