The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan, together with the National Security Committee, the prosecutor’s office, and Czech police, has dismantled an international channel for the illegal distribution of personal data belonging to citizens of Kazakhstan and other CIS countries, Orda.kz reports.
According to police, the criminal group was identified after a long-term operation. Searches were carried out in the Czech city of Ústí nad Labem, as well as in Astana, Almaty, and Karaganda, at the residences of suspects in the criminal case.
Investigators seized digital storage devices containing evidence of illegal activity, as well as cash.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, members of the group created a closed online resource where the personal data of citizens of Kazakhstan and neighboring countries was posted. The group had a clear hierarchy, with each participant assigned a specific role, from coordinating the criminal scheme to accepting and processing orders for the so-called “punching” of personal data. Drop accounts were used to withdraw and cash out money.
A price list was set for various types of illegal services, including one-time requests and subscription-based access to the resource. The alleged organizers of the criminal scheme have been detained and placed in a temporary detention facility. The investigation is ongoing, said Zhandos Suyinbay, head of the Interior Ministry’s Cybercrime Department.
