The Almaty city administration has once again denied permission for a feminist march planned for March 8, International Women's Day. The authorities cited a "risk to public order" as the reason for their rejection.
The activist group announced the decision on their Instagram account:
On Monday (January 13), we sent a notification ( request - Ed.) to the Akimat of Almaty about holding a rally on March 8 and an application for a march. On January 15, the protest was rejected, the stated reason being 'the risk of disturbing public order.' We are not giving up, we plan to appeal the decision of the Akimat. There is no response on the march yet.
This marks the 15th consecutive rejection.
Last year, similar requests for peaceful demonstrations were rejected in six different cities across Kazakhstan.
