Kazakhstan and Dutch company Damen Shipyards Group plan to build shipyards in the west of the country, Orda.kz reports, citing PetroCouncil.kz.
A memorandum of cooperation was signed during negotiations between Kazakhstan and the Netherlands, according to the Ministry of Trade and Integration.
In addition to shipbuilding, the parties discussed using the port of Rotterdam to expand Kazakhstan’s export opportunities. They also discussed joint projects in agricultural technologies and greenhouse farming. Following the negotiations, the countries agreed to implement projects worth a total of 160 million euros.
Cooperation with Damen Shipyards is not new for Kazakhstan. Earlier, a KazMunayGas subsidiary purchased two oil tankers built at the Dutch group’s shipyards. The vessels were used to transport oil along the Aktau-Baku route as part of the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
