The Almaty Criminal Court left Sabyrzhan Zaripov's sentence unchanged. He will serve 15 years for killing his wife, Orda.kz reports.
After the verdict was announced, Zaripov disagreed with the decision and filed an appeal to reclassify the article "Homicide" to the article "Homicide in a State of Passion." Reclassifying the article could reduce the punishment to three years of imprisonment.
Having heard the opinions of the parties, the conclusion of the prosecutor, guided by paragraph 1 of Article 431, Articles 443 and 444, the panel of judges for criminal cases decided to leave the verdict of the specialized inter-district court of the city of Almaty dated September 25, 2024 in relation to Sabyrzhan Zaripov unchanged, and to leave the appeal without satisfaction,
said presiding judge N.E. Karabayev.
The trial took place on September 25. Sabyrzhan Zaripov was sentenced to 15 years to be served in a medium-security penal colony.
Al-Beine Zaripova, 42, the chief financial officer of FlyDubai's partner in Kazakhstan, was killed on January 31 in an upscale area of Almaty. She had flown in from Dubai for a day to see her 12-year-old daughter. She was due to leave soon to study in London.
In her last voicemail, Al-Beine mentioned that she was returning to "her hell," talking about problems with her husband.
