Progress MS-34 Launches From Baikonur Carrying More Than 2.5 Tons of Cargo to the ISS

The Soyuz-2.1a rocket carrying the Progress MS-34 spacecraft was successfully launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on April 26 at 03:22 a.m. Kazakhstan time, Orda.kz reports.

The cargo spacecraft is expected to dock with the ISS on April 28 at 05:01 a.m. Astana time.

According to Roscosmos, Progress MS-34 will deliver more than 2,500 kilograms of cargo to the ISS.

The cargo includes:

  • fuel for refueling the station;
  • food for the crew;
  • drinking water;
  • sanitary and hygiene supplies;
  • oxygen for the station’s internal atmosphere.

The shipment also includes a new Orlan-ISS spacesuit.

Equipment and consumables for scientific experiments are also being sent into orbit:

  • Virtual — using VR glasses and devices that track the body’s reactions, researchers will study how weightlessness affects vision, the vestibular system and spatial orientation;
  • Neuroimmunity — this experiment will examine the effects of stress on the immune and nervous systems;
  • Correction — this project will study the problem of bone mass loss during spaceflight;
  • Biodegradation — this experiment will examine how microorganisms affect materials inside the ISS;
  • Separation — this project is aimed at studying and improving water regeneration methods.
