The village of Birlik in the Kyzylorda region was flooded after heavy rain, Orda.kz reports.
Water overflowed from the riverbed after the downpour and flooded the streets. A video posted online shows water standing on the roads, panicked residents, and emergency equipment at work.
Rescuers laid 1,500 bags of inert material, deepened the irrigation ditch, and diverted water to the Zhigerli discharge canal, the Shukyroy reservoir, and nearby hayfields. In total, 1,178 cubic meters of water were pumped out. Some 320 rescuers and akimat employees took part in the response, using 13 motor pumps and 17 pieces of equipment. The Emergency Situations Ministry said the emergency had been brought under control.
At the same time, a heavy downpour also hit Kentau in the Turkestan region. Water entered courtyards, homes, and business premises. Workers at the covered market cleared floodwater from inside the building. Residents blamed builders who, they said, had failed to provide a rainwater drainage system.
It rained for three hours, and what would happen if it lasted three days?local residents said.
In some parts of Kentau, the water level reached 20–25 centimeters. Rescuers are helping residents, pumping out water, and securing flooded areas. About 180 people, 24 motor pumps, and 14 pieces of equipment were deployed to deal with the aftermath.
