On August 14, Sanjar Alin, akim of Almaty’s Bostandyq district, announced his resignation in a farewell video published on the district akimat’s official page, Orda.kz reports.
Alin had led the district since May 2023, after previously heading the Almaty Energy and Water Supply Department.
He drew public attention when he accused local resident Lyudmila Sengirbayeva of stealing his wallet during a meeting at the akimat about water supply issues. However, an investigative experiment showed that Sengirbayeva physically could not have committed the theft.
She has since stated her intention to file a complaint for false denunciation.
Alin’s resignation follows other recent departures from Almaty’s leadership, including deputy akims Askar Amrin and Asem Nusupova.
