Kazakhstanis Are the Happiest in Central Asia: New Results in the Global Ranking

The World Happiness Report has been published — an annual study by the UN and Gallup. In the updated ranking, Kazakhstan entered the top 35 happiest countries, Orda.kz reports. A year earlier, Kazakhstan was in the top 50.
The World Happiness Report ranks countries around the world by the level of happiness of their populations.
This year, Kazakhstan ranked 33rd out of 147 countries. Serbia (30th place), Uruguay (31st), and Brazil (32nd) are higher in the ranking. Immediately behind Kazakhstan are Romania (34th) and France (35th).
Experts analyze countries according to six key indicators. According to the report, Kazakhstan showed the following results:
- Social support — 4th place (94.7%);
- GDP per capita — 42nd place ($37,123);
- Healthy life expectancy — 77th place (61.5 years);
- Freedom — 62nd place (84%);
- Generosity — 29th place (49.7%);
- Perception of corruption — 74th place (77.1%).
As in previous years, the Nordic countries remain the leaders. Finland ranks first, followed by Iceland and Denmark. Costa Rica and Sweden come next.
Israel is in eighth place, Switzerland is in tenth, New Zealand and Mexico are in 11th and 12th place, and the Czech Republic rounds out the top 20. The United States ranks 23rd, while Russia is 79th.
At the same time, Kazakhstan remains one of the happiest countries in the region. Compared to its neighbors, its position looks noticeably stronger:
Uzbekistan — 53rd place,
Kyrgyzstan — 66th,
Tajikistan — 88th.
At the bottom of the list are Malawi (145th place), Sierra Leone (146th), and Afghanistan (147th).
