President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said Kazakhstan needs to develop more scientific and engineering talent. According to him, the country must change its approach to education and increase interest in science and technology, Orda.kz reports.
Speaking today, Tokayev said there is an oversupply of humanities graduates and a shortage of specialists in technical fields.
We have too many, I think, lawyers, philologists, diplomats. We must change the mentality of the nation, turn it towards science and technology. he said.
The head of state stressed that Kazakhstan needs a “mental revolution” and stronger training for scientific and engineering professionals. According to him, universities play a key role in this process, as they shape the country’s intellectual elite and must prepare specialists for the modern economy.
He also said Kazakhstan plans to open a University of Artificial Intelligence. It is expected to admit its first students and master’s candidates this year.
The president added that the development of AI is impossible without a strong scientific base, so the state intends to continue investing in education, research, and digital skills.
