Kazakh Ambassador to Russia Speaks About the Russian Language After the Referendum

Dauren Abayev stressed that the Russian language continues to hold a high status in Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports.
Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Russia Dauren Abayev said Kazakhstan remains a “predictable and reliable partner of Russia.”
Our country continues to uphold the high status of the Russian language. As the president emphasized, the very fact that the text of the new Constitution was published in both Kazakh and Russian, with equal legal force, shows the state’s consistent commitment [...] to protecting Kazakhstan’s Russian and Russian-speaking population.he said.
At the same time, Kazakh remains the state language under the Constitution.
We support preserving the Russian language.the ambassador added.
Earlier, Dauren Abayev said Kazakhstan’s widespread command of Russian is one of the country’s strengths. According to him, about 95 % of the population speaks Russian, and the language remains a compulsory subject in schools.
Orda also reported that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov thanked Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for the initiative to create the International Organization for the Russian Language. It was established in October 2023, and its headquarters were set to be located in Sochi.
