A Turkish public association in Almaty has been forcibly liquidated, and its building has been transferred to state ownership, Orda.kz reports.
On May 26, the public association Turkey in Kazakhstan and the Keruen Almaty charitable institution were liquidated. Their building on Utegen Batyr Street was seized and transferred to the state.
The Almaty Justice Department told Orda.kz that bailiffs enforced a decision by the specialized interdistrict economic court. The building was officially vacated and handed over to the Department of State Property and Privatization.
Officials said the process went smoothly. Representatives of the organizations were present, and the situation was calm.
The association had been registered for more than 32 years. Its head is listed as Ziyatdin Kasanov, described in Kazakhstan as a well-known and influential businessman. However, there is little open information about the activities of the liquidated organization.
Little is also known about Keruen Almaty. Officials did not answer Orda.kz’s questions about what exactly the organizations did or why the court made the decision.
The association’s problems began long before the eviction. At one point, the center was registered in Taraz, but in 2018 it was included on a list of entities subject to forced liquidation. It remains unclear why the process lasted almost eight years.
