Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed two laws on May 8 ratifying international agreements with the United Kingdom and Turkey, Orda.kz reports.
The first document concerns the strategic partnership and cooperation agreement between Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The agreement sets out the foundations for political, economic, legal, humanitarian and environmental cooperation between the two countries.
Its ratification is aimed at attracting investment, developing trade and implementing joint projects in energy, renewable energy, mining, digitalization, the financial sector and agriculture.
Special attention is given to legal cooperation. The agreement provides for interaction between judicial and law enforcement agencies, exchange of experience in the field of justice and coordination on mutual legal assistance.
The document also covers the cultural and humanitarian sphere, including the development of educational programs, expansion of student and teacher exchanges, and cooperation between museums and archives, as well as joint exhibitions and festivals.
The parties also intend to strengthen cooperation in ecology, the green economy and climate technologies.
The second law concerns an agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and Turkey on the transit of military equipment and personnel through the airspace of the two countries.
The document creates a legal basis for nonstop flights of military transport and chartered civilian aircraft through the territories of Kazakhstan and Turkey.
The agreement defines the procedure for obtaining flight permits, as well as the powers of state bodies in both countries, including the defense and foreign ministries. Flights will be carried out in accordance with the rules of the International Civil Aviation Organization and national legislation.
The document also regulates maintenance, emergency landings, financial obligations of the parties and the protection of classified information.
