U.S. President Donald Trump intends to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin about prospects for ending the war in Ukraine, Orda.kz reports.
Trump announced on Truth Social that the conversation is scheduled for Monday at 10:00 a.m. ET (14:00 GMT). He noted that the purpose of the call is to discuss ways to bring the conflict to an end.
Commenting on Trump’s statement, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington would step up pressure:
The Russian government has been made aware of the possibility of new sanctions, and we have been 'quite clear' about this in recent weeks,
Rubio added.
In February 2025, after a previous phone call with Putin, Trump said he believed the Russian leader “cares” about battlefield casualties and “wants people to stop dying.”
