A court in Astana is hearing the case of Damir Dosov, a 22-year-old anti-aircraft artillery platoon commander from military unit 25744 in Aqtau, Orda.kz reports.
Dosov faces charges of intentional homicide under Article 99, Part 1 of Kazakhstan's Criminal Code, for allegedly shooting a 19-year-old conscript at a military training facility in the Mangystau region last September.
The proceedings for criminal cases are taking place at Astana's specialized inter-district military court.
According to Azamat Sagal, the deceased soldier's family lawyer, the trial is open to the public.
The incident occurred on September 7, 2024, at the Oimasha training ground during a military assembly.
Dosov, the platoon commander, discharged a service weapon, fatally wounding soldier Marat Barkulov in the head.
Despite emergency response efforts, Barkulov died en route to the hospital.
The victim's family has rejected suggestions that the shooting was accidental.
In response to the tragedy, the Ministry of Defense established a special commission to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
