Where Kazakhstan’s Biggest Ethnic Communities Are Concentrated

Kazakhstan’s population has reached 20,532,240, Orda.kz reports. The updated figures show the country’s ethnic composition and where its largest communities are concentrated.

Kazakhs remain the largest ethnic group in the country, numbering 14,664,202. They are followed by Russians with 2,943,022 and Uzbeks with 695,557.

The next largest groups are Ukrainians with 367,547, Uyghurs with 309,164, Germans with 222,890, Tatars with 218,361, Azerbaijanis with 157,568, Koreans with 120,821, Turks with 93,234, Dungans with 88,165, Belarusians with 73,788, Tajiks with 61,307, Kurds with 52,077, and Kyrgyz with 41,459.

Regionally, the largest number of Kazakhs lives in the Turkestan region, where their population reaches 1.6 million. The largest Russian population is in Almaty, with 428,000 people.

Most Uzbeks also live in the Turkestan region, where their number stands at 404,000. The largest Ukrainian population is in the Kostanay region, with 83,000 people. Of Kazakhstan’s 309,000 Uyghurs, most live in Almaty, where their number reaches 124,000.
