Tokayev Helped Secure Release of Detained Kazakh Diplomat

A Kazakh diplomat detained in Bydgoszcz and accused of espionage was released on April 28 as part of a prisoner exchange between Poland and Belarus, Orda.kz reports.
Aybek Smadiyarov, adviser and press secretary to the president of Kazakhstan, said the release was made possible thanks to the personal efforts of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who, he said, consistently defends the rights and interests of Kazakh citizens, including those abroad.
During the recent telephone conversation with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, the president of Kazakhstan expressed his sincere gratitude for the constructive cooperation between our countries in this difficult situation. The head of state also considers it appropriate to express gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin for his assistance in achieving a mutually acceptable result.the statement said.
Smadiyarov added that Tokayev also plans to send letters to Polish President Karol Nawrocki and Prime Minister Donald Tusk expressing gratitude for what he described as the balanced approach of the Polish side in the circumstances.
