Kazakh Citizen Detained in Germany on Suspicion of Spying for Russia

A citizen of Kazakhstan has been detained in Germany on suspicion of spying for Russian intelligence, Orda.kz reports, citing Germany’s Federal Prosecutor’s Office.

According to prosecutors, police in Berlin arrested Sergei K. on April 28 on the basis of a warrant issued by the Federal Court. A search was also carried out at his home. Investigators believe that since May 2025 he had been in contact with Russian intelligence services and had provided them with various information.

The accused provided his handler with information about Germany’s military support for Ukraine and the German defense industry, in particular about companies developing drones and robots. In addition, Sergei K. repeatedly photographed public buildings in Berlin and military convoys on highways, including a convoy belonging to one of the NATO states.the prosecutor’s office said.

According to the authorities, the detainee also provided the Russian side with information about potential sabotage targets. He is also suspected of proposing the recruitment of other people to form a spy group.
