The president called Astana the heart of sovereign Kazakhstan and a symbol of the country’s independence, Orda reports, citing Akorda.
Our capital is a symbol of the state’s independence, the center of the nation’s creative energy, striving for the future. All fateful decisions for our people are made in this city.
According to the Kazakh president, Astana has become the driving force behind major historical events and received the status of a smart city, where new governance systems have been introduced.
Tokayev also recalled the new constitutional law on the status of the capital. He emphasized that the document strengthened Astana’s role as the country’s political, administrative, economic, and cultural center.
Later, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated Nursultan Nazarbayev on his birthday. Kazakhstan’s first president turned 86 on July 6, 2026.
Tokayev traditionally praised Nazarbayev’s achievements, including “his historic mission to build the foundations of modern Kazakh statehood and strengthen the country’s economic potential”.
