Ten-Year Record: More Kazakhstanis Are Losing Their Driver’s Licenses

Kazakh courts received 5,336 cases seeking the suspension or revocation of driver’s licenses in the first half of 2026. That was 3.7 times more than a year earlier and the highest figure in at least a decade, Orda.kz reports, citing DataHub.
The increase is not limited to a single year: the number of cases has now risen for three consecutive years.
A license may be challenged if it was issued in violation of driver-training, testing or licensing rules. Courts may also intervene if a driver fails to pass a traffic rules test within two months of being ordered to do so.
The surge coincides with calls for tighter oversight of driving schools. Since April 2016, opening a driving school has required only a notification after mandatory licensing was abolished.
Almaty and Aktobe Region recorded the most cases, with 757 each, followed by Karaganda Region with 535. Together, they accounted for 38% of the total. Astana recorded the fewest, with only 13.
Courts opened proceedings in 5,161 cases. Of the 4,251 cases already decided, 4,044 claims were granted and 207 were rejected.
