Two tankers were hit by drones while loading Kazakh oil at the Caspian Pipeline Consortium’s Black Sea terminal on July 19. The attack forced the CPC to suspend loading operations, Orda.kz reports, citing the consortium.
The tankers — the ASIA and NISSOS IOS — were loading oil supplied by Tengizchevroil and KazMunayGas subsidiaries when they were hit.
A fire broke out on the ASIA but was extinguished. No one was injured, and no oil spill was reported. Both vessels remain afloat while specialists assess the damage.
The CPC described the incident as a deliberate terrorist attack and said it was the fifth direct attack on its civilian infrastructure. The pipeline is a major export route for oil from Kazakhstan’s Tengiz, Kashagan and Karachaganak fields.
