A Ukrainian drone reportedly attacked the Yasa Polaris tanker off Russia’s Black Sea coast. The vessel transports oil from the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, through which Kazakhstan exports most of its oil, Orda.kz reports, citing Reuters.
Two industry sources told Reuters about the attack. On Monday, Chevron confirmed an incident involving a vessel heading to CPC loading facilities near Novorossiysk.
The crew is safe, and exports from Kazakhstan were not affected, the company said.
The tanker was built in 2022 and can carry about 160,000 tons of oil. It is operated by Turkey’s Yasa Holding, which did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
The CPC is closely linked to Kazakhstan’s oil exports. Most CPC Blend crude is supplied by Tengizchevroil, which is operated by Chevron, from the giant Tengiz field.
