Two oil tankers were attacked near the Caspian Pipeline Consortium’s (CPC) marine terminal overnight on July 30, Orda.kz reports, citing the consortium.
According to the CPC, a drone struck the Marshall Islands-flagged NISSOS SIFNOS tanker at 1:48 a.m. Moscow time. The vessel was loading Tengizchevroil oil at Single Point Mooring 3.
The strike hit the cargo deck near the oil-loading equipment. The fire was extinguished by the tanker’s crew with assistance from three CPC support vessels.
No one was killed or injured, and no oil spill occurred. The crew did not require evacuation, and the tanker remained afloat. Specialists are assessing the damage.
Oil loading was temporarily suspended, but the CPC pipeline continues to operate normally.
A second tanker, the Isle of Man-flagged MARATHI, was attacked in territorial waters about six nautical miles from the terminal. It was heading to the CPC terminal to load oil.
