The court has passed a verdict in the case of 14-year-old Karina Dorokhina, killed in the winter of 2024, Orda.kz reports.
The girl's body was found in a mine shaft at the Koksu mine in the Tekeli mountains. The investigation determined she had been sexually abused for a year before being killed, after which attempts were made to conceal evidence.
The main defendants were the girl's biological mother and stepfather.
The court found the stepfather guilty of homicide and sexual assault, sentencing him to life.
The mother received 19 years in prison, as Article 46 of Kazakhstan's Criminal Code prohibits life sentences for women.
The court examined the criminal case materials, which included forensic medical examination findings regarding the victim and physical evidence, based on which the court concluded that you committed repeated acts of sexual nature against a minor, the judge explained.
The convicted stepfather denied sexually abusing Karina, arguing that no sperm was found and that any DNA evidence was meaningless since they all lived together.
He ended by threatening to kill himself.
The death of 14-year-old Karina Dorokhina shocked the residents of Taldykorgan.
The mother and stepfather faced multiple charges under Kazakhstan's Criminal Code:
- Article 120, Section 3-2, Item 3 (Sexual assault committed by an organized group)
- Article 121, Section 3-2, Item 3 (Violent acts of a sexual nature committed by a group of persons by prior agreement or by an organized group)
- Article 110, Section 2, Item 1 (Torture committed against two or more persons)
- Article 99, Section 2, Item 7, 10, 14 (Homicide: committed to conceal another crime; with extreme cruelty; by an organized group)
- Article 28, Section 5 (Organizers and accomplices face the same charges as the primary perpetrator)
Karina's body was discovered on January 8, 2024, 40 kilometers from Taldykorgan in the Tekeli mountains.
The search began on December 28 after school officials reported her missing.
A relative became concerned and alerted authorities when she tried to deliver a gift to Karina from her grandmother in Russia.
It was later revealed the girl had been missing since November.
During questioning, the mother's contradictory statements attracted scrutiny, and she eventually confessed to the homicide. According to her initial statements, the incident occurred around 4:30 PM on November 6.
She and her daughter were at the PitStop auto service center in Taldykorgan, rented by the stepfather Aisabakiyev.
The mother and daughter argued, ending with the mother strangling her daughter with a rope. That same day, the suspects loaded the child's body into a Range Rover and buried it in the mountains near Tekeli.
However, on January 3, Aisabakieva changed her statements, claiming that her husband had strangled her daughter.
She said he convinced her to take the blame, arguing she would receive a lighter sentence as a woman.
The stepfather was detained on January 5. Examination of the girl's body revealed her head had been shaved shortly before death, and she had been repeatedly sexually abused.
