Kazakhstan could gasify its northeastern regions faster if the Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline passes through the country, Deputy Energy Minister Kaiyrkhan Tutkyshbayev said at a government meeting, Orda.kz reports.
According to him, Russia and China are currently discussing the pipeline route. Kazakhstan is not taking part in the negotiations, and no final decision has been made.
Negotiations on the Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline are currently underway between Russia and China. Kazakhstan is not participating in these talks. One option assumes that the gas pipeline will pass through Mongolia. But if Russia and China agree that it will pass through Kazakhstan, this would give us the opportunity to gasify the northeastern part of our country as quickly as possible. Together with QazaqGaz, we would immediately start this work,Tutkyshbayev said.
He added that the Energy Ministry continues to implement the Ishim–Astana gas pipeline project. The authorities expect to complete gasification of the northern regions by 2030.
Earlier, Orda.kz reported that Russia has not yet decided on the route of the Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline.
