KazMunayGas chair Askhat Khasenov has explained how construction of the gas processing plant in Zhanaozen is progressing. Earlier, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev criticized the government over the slow pace of work on major projects, Orda.kz reports.
According to Khasenov, the project differs from standard construction because the plant is being assembled on a modular basis. Most of the equipment is manufactured at the producer’s factory and will then be delivered to the site.
The plant has a distinctive feature — modular assembly. The main production is taking place at the manufacturer’s factory. There are 259 items in total. About 49 % of the equipment, or 92 items, has already been manufactured, while 167 items are still in production, Khasenov said.
He said he personally visited the manufacturer’s production facilities. According to the head of KMG, the modular approach will reduce the amount of construction and installation work needed at the site compared with conventional construction. Khasenov said the project is under constant control and that the schedule is being followed.
Under the contract, the EPC contractor must complete the main work in February–March 2027. Commissioning will begin after that and may take up to six months.

Earlier, Tokayev criticized the government over delays in important infrastructure and industrial projects, including in monotowns. In Zhanaozen, which depends on the oil and gas industry, the launch of the gas processing plant is seen as one of the projects needed for the city’s further development and for reducing social tension.
