Kazakhstan’s Energy Ministry says the drone attack on Russia’s Omsk refinery will not affect the country’s fuel market, Orda.kz reports.

Deputy Energy Minister Kaiyrkhan Tutkyshbayev said the situation at the refinery would not affect Kazakhstan’s domestic refineries.

The situation at the Omsk refinery will not affect the work of our domestic refineries. As for border areas, fuel consumption is growing there. There is now an order that prohibits entering Kazakhstan more than once. This applies to all border zones in the south, east and north,he said at a government briefing.

Tutkyshbayev added that Kazakhstan has formed the necessary reserves of fuel and lubricants.

The Omsk refinery was attacked on July 6. Reuters described it as one of the deepest strikes on Russian oil infrastructure, as the plant is located about 2700 km from Ukrainian-controlled territory. Russian authorities confirmed a fire after the attack but said there were no casualties.

The Omsk refinery is Russia’s largest oil refinery and is operated by Gazprom Neft. It processes about 23 million tons of oil per year and, before the attack, was one of the largest refineries beyond the Urals that had not yet been hit by Ukrainian drones.

Media reports suggest that the strike may have targeted the ELOU-AVT-11 primary oil refining unit, which has a capacity of 8.4 million tons per year. There has been no official confirmation of the scale of the damage.
