The remains of Orazgali Belyubayev will soon be returned to Kazakhstan, where he will be laid to rest with full honors, Orda.kz reports, citing the press service of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Russia.
Belyubayev’s remains were discovered in the Novgorod region last fall by local search groups “Medved” and “Nakhodka.” His identity was confirmed through a preserved identification form in his soldier’s medallion.
A native of the Semipalatinsk region, Belyubayev was born in 1908 and had been listed as missing in action. According to researchers, he died in August 1943 during an attempt to liberate the city of Staraya Russa.
Relatives of the fallen soldier were located through the combined efforts of the military attaché of Kazakhstan’s Embassy in Russia and the Kazakh search groups “Maidan Joly” and “Yerlik-Dank.”
Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Russia, Dauren Abayev, expressed his gratitude to the search volunteers for their dedicated work. Deputy Governor of the Novgorod Region, Ilya Malenko, also acknowledged the longstanding involvement of Kazakhstan's teams in the annual Memory Watch commemorations in the region, which began in 1989.
A janazah (Islamic funeral) ceremony was performed during the transfer of the remains.
