Record Rainfall Hits Almaty
More than half of Almaty’s monthly rainfall fell in just over a day, Orda.kz reports, citing the city akimat.
Heavy downpours hit the city from 11:00 a.m. on May 10 to 8:00 p.m. on May 11. According to the akimat, Almaty recorded 50.4 mm of precipitation during that period, or 51% of the average monthly rainfall for May, which is 99 mm.


Utilities are working in emergency mode.
The rescue service, equipped with a sewer-cleaning vehicle and 15 motor pumps, is also on duty. The Emergency Situations Department has deployed 53 units of special equipment and 240 employees,the statement said.
Over 24 hours, 3,080 road workers and 1,225 units of special equipment were involved in keeping the city’s infrastructure running smoothly. Authorities also prepared 2,300 sandbags.
