A group of rare Przewalski’s horses has been brought from the Czech Republic to Kazakhstan as part of a project to restore the wild horse population, Orda.kz reports, citing the Ministry of Ecology.

This is another group of animals delivered under an international project to restore the population of the world’s only surviving wild horse species. The animals arrived on a special flight at Kostanay International Airport.

They were then transported in specialized vehicles to the Altyn Dala state nature reserve in the Amangeldi district of the Kostanay region.

At the reintroduction center, the horses will undergo an adaptation period under the supervision of specialists. After that, they will be prepared for release into their natural habitat, the ministry said.

Kazakhstan is implementing a large-scale program to return this unique species to its historical range.

Under an agreement between Kazakhstan and Prague Zoo, 40 more Przewalski’s horses will be brought to the country by 2029.
