Tokayev Says Snow Leopard Numbers in Kazakhstan Have Recovered

The number of snow leopards in Kazakhstan has increased, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said at the regional environmental summit, Orda.kz reports.
The president said the snow leopard population in the country has recovered and now stands at about 190 animals.
The number of snow leopards in Kazakhstan has more than doubled and now stands at about 190. In cooperation with international partners, we are also working on the breeding and restoration of other rare species, including falcons, goitered gazelles, tigers and Przewalski’s horses. Large-scale reforestation is one of the main priorities of Kazakhstan’s environmental program.Tokayev said.
The president also said that over the past five years Kazakhstan has planted more than 1.5 billion trees on an area of more than one million hectares, including saxaul on the dried-up bed of the Aral Sea to slow desertification.
