Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump spoke by phone for nearly an hour, reports Orda.kz.
Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov said the two leaders discussed a range of international issues, including the war in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, and the state of bilateral relations.
The war in Ukraine reportedly dominated the conversation.
Trump reiterated the need to end hostilities as soon as possible. In response, Putin emphasized that Russia remains committed to a political and diplomatic resolution, while also intending to achieve all its stated objectives.
The call also touched on developments in Syria, Iran, and broader Middle Eastern affairs. While no plans for an in-person meeting were discussed, Ushakov noted that “the idea is in the air.”

No dates were mentioned for a potential third round of talks in Istanbul.
Following the call, President Trump told reporters on July 3 that he "didn't make any progress at all" in moving toward a resolution in Ukraine.
He also denied reports that the U.S. had paused weapons deliveries to Ukraine, despite the Pentagon’s recent decision to suspend shipments, according to The Kyiv Independent.
"You know, Biden emptied out our whole country giving them weapons, and we have to make sure that we have enough for ourselves," Trump said.
