Almaty police do not classify any of the city’s districts as crime hotspots, although some record more offenses than others, Orda.kz reports.

Police spokesperson Saltanat Azirbek said at a Regional Communications Service briefing that the highest numbers of crimes were recorded in the Auezov, Bostandyk and Almaly districts.

Police attributed this to population density, saying a large proportion of the city’s residents live in these areas.

During the first seven months of 2026, the overall crime situation in the city improved. Serious and especially serious crimes decreased by 3.3%, while minor and medium-severity offenses fell by 15.8%. Juvenile crime declined by 7%. The 102 hotline receives around 3,000 calls and reports from residents every day, Azirbek said.

Police also reported declines in several categories of property crime. Fraud fell by 12.1%, theft by 11.4%, robbery by 14.3% and violent robbery by 6.7%. Online fraud decreased by 9.5%.

Police said fraudsters constantly change their tactics, using social engineering and phone calls to manipulate people into transferring money or disclosing confidential information.
