The Almaty Garrison Military Court has concluded the trial of Junior Sergeant Dastan Turlan, who was accused of assaulting 19-year-old conscript Nurjigit Abdilpatta, an Orda.kz correspondent reports.
Abdilpatta was drafted into military service on May 17, 2024, and assigned to a unit in Otar. Just a month later, he was hospitalized in intensive care following the assault.
While the state prosecutor requested a five-year sentence, the court imposed a reduced sentence of three years in prison.
Turlan was found guilty under Article 451 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan — “Exceeding Authority or Official Authority.”
The court also partially upheld the civil suit: Turlan must pay over two million tenge in moral and material damages to the victim’s family within a month.
Earlier, the victim’s side had petitioned to reclassify the charge to Part 2 of the same article, which covers cases with severe repercussions.
