More Than 20 Boat Owners Fined After Alakol Tragedies

The Emergency Ministry has stepped up inspections of small watercraft on Lake Alakol following recent tragedies. Inspectors are checking whether boats, motorboats and jet skis are being operated safely, Orda.kz reports.
The inspections resulted in administrative penalties for 22 watercraft owners. The fines totaled 229,225 tenge.
One jet ski operator who appeared to be intoxicated was handed over to police for testing.
Emergency officials in the Zhetysu Region also held additional briefings and provided guidance on small-vessel safety rules.
Earlier, two serious incidents involving a jet ski and a boat occurred on Lake Alakol. One person was killed, while a pensioner lost both legs.
