Lightning Causes Two Fires in Burabay

Two fires broke out in Burabay during a thunderstorm. One was quickly extinguished, while firefighters continue working at the second site in the Akylbay forestry area, Orda.kz reports.
The Burabay State National Nature Park confirmed both fires and said they were caused by lightning. The fire near the Abylai Khan Meadow was extinguished within ten minutes, but the fire in Akylbay forestry had not yet been contained.
The fire in Block 2 of Borovoye forestry broke out at 3:30 p.m. near the Abylai Khan Meadow, in mountainous terrain at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level. Firefighters began working at 3:45 p.m., and the fire was contained by 3:55 p.m. It covered 0.001 hectares. The fire in Akylbay forestry had not yet been contained as of 4:15 p.m.,the national park said.
A total of 66 people and 10 vehicles are involved in the operation. The second fire covers an estimated 0.06 hectares, and crews have prevented it from spreading further. Strong winds and difficult mountainous terrain are complicating the work.
