Lightning Causes Fire in Burabay National Park

Dry grass caught fire on two opposite slopes of Mount Kokshetau in Burabay National Park, Orda.kz reports, citing the Akmola Region Emergency Situations Department.

More than 150 people and 17 vehicles from the emergency services, the national park and the aerial forest protection service were deployed to fight the fire. A Kazaviaspas helicopter made 15 water drops, releasing a total of 75 tons of water.

One fire has been extinguished, while the second has been contained. National park staff are now monitoring the area to prevent the flames from spreading again.

Preliminary reports indicate that the fire was caused by a lightning strike. No casualties were reported.
