19 Forest Fires Reported Across Kazakhstan’s Protected Areas

Two new forest fires caused by lightning strikes have been reported in the Semey Ormany State Forest Nature Reserve, Orda.kz reports, citing the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.
As of July 20, Kazakhstan had recorded 19 forest fires across three protected areas: the Semey Ormany and Ertis Ormany forest reserves and Bayanauyl National Park.
The two latest fires broke out in separate sections of the Semey Ormany reserve’s Suburban Forestry branch. Each covered about two hectares.
The ministry said firefighters began tackling the fires immediately after receiving the report.
All the necessary personnel and equipment have been deployed to prevent the fires from spreading and extinguish them as quickly as possible. The situation remains under the constant control of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources,the ministry said.
A helicopter, Kazavialesookhrana crews, Semey Ormany employees and an Emergency Situations Ministry unit are involved in the operation.
