Kazakhstan’s Pilot Online ID Renewal Service Is Still Far From Stable

In Kazakhstan, the option of renewing an identity card online is still operating in pilot mode and continues to face problems, Orda.kz reports.
The pilot service for online ID renewal has not yet become a full alternative to visiting a Public Service Center. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry Rostislav Konyashkin.
According to him, the main issue is the photo verification system. The algorithm that evaluates photos taken by users at home is still “learning,” so some applications are rejected. At present, the share of successful online applications remains below 50%.
It is being tested now. I fully admit that there are cases when the model does not work correctly, and we are fixing that now, and will continue refining it. I want to say right away that this is not a matter of days or weeks, but of several months. In this format, the service will continue to be improved throughout the year.Konyashkin said at a government briefing.
At the same time, self-service terminals for document processing are being introduced at Public Service Centers. The authorities expect this to speed up access to services and reduce queues.
