National Atomic Company Kazatomprom has agreed with Swiss Axpo Power AG and Kernkraftwerk Leibstadt AG on uranium supplies. The first contract has already been signed, Orda.kz reports.
The uranium will power Switzerland's Beznau and Leibstadt nuclear power plants, according to Kazatomprom.
The deal was finalized during the company's visit to Switzerland.
This contract is an important step in our strategy to diversify our sales channels. It also plays a key role in ensuring energy security and decarbonization, which will strengthen our partnership and ensure long-term supplies of natural uranium for the Swiss nuclear energy industry, said Vladislav Baiguzhin, Kazatomprom's Chief Commercial Officer.
Kazakhstan currently leads global uranium supplies and Kazatomprom plans to boost production by at least seven percent in 2025.
